Wolfgang Weninger
Professor Wolfgang Weninger received his training in clinical dermatology at the Department of Dermatology, Medical University Vienna, Vienna, Austria (1992-1999). He then spent four years at Harvard Medical School, US, where he investigated the mechanisms of immune cell migration in vivo. Between 2003-2007, Professor Weninger was a Faculty member at the Wistar Institute and the Department of Dermatology, University of Pennsylvania, US. In 2007, he was appointed Chair of the Discipline of Dermatology, Sydney Medical School, Sydney, Australia. He also heads the Immune Imaging Program at the Centenary Institute, Newtown, NSW, Australia. Professor Weninger is recognised for discovering several novel immune cell subsets and determining their roles in skin allergies, infections and cancers. In particular, his pioneering development of cutting-edge imaging technologies, primarily multi-photon microscopy, has allowed unraveling the functions of immune cells during skin disease in real time.
